The educational program "Discover Your rivers"

The guided river activities and talks proposed by our company to the youth public (11-25 years) are part of an educational program called "Discover Your rivers."
This program consists of 3 teaching units targeted to different age ranges, but with a similar methodology and a common emphasis on the experience of river navigation as a vital educational resourcel.

The activities aimed to schoolchildren have a duration of 3 to 6 hours long, and they can take place in Zaragoza’s urban environment as well as along others tracks of the Ebro river.
The experiential activity can be complemented in an optimum way with classroom activities managed by ebroNAUTAS staff or by the usual teacher of the group, using the available complementary material.
Our river activities can be adapted for groups with special needs (blind people, handicaps...) choosing suitable boats and river tracks.
Learning to live the river is now easy and safe
Security is guaranteed:
- Every customer have a life jacket.
- The river activities are guided by ebroNAUTAS qualified staff with extensive experience in working with schoolchildren.
- The middle Ebro is a calm waters river throughout the year.
- Accident Insurance and Liability are contracted for all the activities.
- Shoes that can get wet (sport-shoes, plastic sandals... optimally no flip-flaps.)
- Comfortable clothes suited to the weather (swimwear and t- shirt in hot day, or sportwear with a raincoat for a fresh one).
- Cap and sun protector.
- In case using glasses don’t forget lose protector.
- Towel and dry clothes (including footwear parts) to change at the end of the activity.
- For the 6 hours activity, it is necessary to bring food and drink for pic-nic in a nice river spot.

All activities can be carried out without previous experience in kayaking or conoeing, serving themselves as a good introduction to kayak sport. They are also a good oversight of knowledges about the rivers and their management. Both equipment and organization of the activities are intended to allow an ideal first contact with the recreational use of our rivers, as well as to promote attitudes consistent with its preservation.
The boats used are sit-on-top unsinkable kayaks or pneumatic catarafts choosing between them regarding the age of the customers and the flow level on the river. Duration and distance route for school-children between 6 and 11 years, who must be accompanied by parents or older students, are perfectly suitable.

The school group can be up to 55 people between students and teachers. Special equipment is not required, but every one has to be ready for splashing, by dressing suitable footwear and carrying dry clothes to get changed after the activity.
The approach of ebroNAUTAS’ activities is a new didactic proposal to learn about rivers, in a time when the importance of water as a resource and in sustaining ecosystems is being emphasized on a global scale.
Get fun... and involve you in preservation!
The approach of ebroNAUTAS didactic activities is relatively simple: Enjoy the rivers to the fullest and reflect on its playful function and its importance for the life quality of people. Try to make the schoolchildren fall in love with the aquatic environment, in order to involve them in its preservation. Finally, take advantage on their new interest in this environment, by providing them with scientific knowledge that can be useful to protect their rivers... and of course train them well for public participation!.

The Water Framework Directive, which applies throughout Europe, poses the active social participation as a key-tool in the management of rivers. Since there can be no participation without a proper training, education about rivers and their direct knowledge is a requirement for carrying out this directive.
Personal Transformations for a social transformation

Each new playful user of the rivers is a small drop involved in the preservation of aquatic ecosystems. Joining to other drops, they can form the flood that has to clean rivers from decades of vandalism and dropouts.
